My Story

Samaritans provides help 24/7 to people who are struggling with mental health or emotional crisis.

Sevenoaks Samaritans opened just 18 months ago and now has around 100 listening volunteers. We are not funded from the centre so our volunteers raise the funds we need to run the service. There are no paid staff so all the money raised is spent on supporting callers. The cost of office space, telephones and other overheads works out to roughly £1 per call - not much when it might save somebody's life.

I'm not fit enough to run a marathon so I'm doing a sponsored litter pick over a distance of 26 miles. I'll do it piecemeal throughout the month of July starting from my home in Sevenoaks and working outwards from there.

What Samaritans does is incredibly worthwhile. It really does change lives. Any donation will make a difference.
